Modern Dance/
Contemporary Forms

Modern + Contemporary Dance Forms

Class is a highly physical, deeply researched exploration of contemporary and postmodern techniques. Drawing on my lineage in classical modern dance, contemporary forms, Jazz dance improvisation, and performance techniques, the class will be an ever-evolving space for us to research and explore together. There will be an emphasis on embodied physiology for this course, meaning we will use the various systems of the Human Body to gain a better understanding of our physical dancing. Class will also encompass improvisational scoring, conditioning, discussion, and phrase work alongside practices of redirecting our weight, playing with tone/texture, musicality, rhythm, points of initiation, and awareness of movement habits. Every body contains multitudes, and this class is a space to expand into our artistic curiosities (both individual and collective) while acknowledging that everyone in the room has knowledge that is vital for building this space together.
